TLDR: Click our YouTube link to watch our short in 4K!
Setup: Some of you may remember (or read my last blog) that in 2024, the 4K version of The Lost was shown at the Sacramento Esquire IMAX. Well, prior to that, the hard drive with all of the raw footage had been corrupted for years, but when We got the opportunity to show it on IMAX, I decided it was time to pay the couple hundred bucks to recover it. Fortunately there was also a 99% complete edit on the drive, so I made the last tweaks and it was ready to release. My problem was that other than the film festival it was showing in, I couldn't think of what to do for a release. 2024 was the 37th anniversary of the release of The Lost Boys, and 37 isn't a very special number unless you're a Kevin Smith fan. So I sat on it, thinking maybe I'd wait for the 40th or something. For those of you who don't know me, I'm supernaturally patient; a good thing for finishing long-term projects, not so good for promoting your work. Fate had an idea. This week I was chatting in a podcast, NotQuiteNovelists which is run by our own purple-Mohawked Vamp (Dorothy), Savannah Rayne! The topic had nothing to do with Vampires, but because... Savannah, it quickly included them. As they were discussing Vampire lore, I was chiming in in the chat with Vampire facts I've accrued in my research, and another chatter complimented my knowledge on the topic. I replied with "The first time Savannah played a Vampire was in my short film," thinking the response would be like "Oh, cool." Her fans went nuts asking where they could see it, so I made the 4K version public and dropped it in the chat. The 4K version has gotten over 350 views in 4 days. I swear I wasn't trying to take over her show. So, to make up for/return the favor, I'm urging fans of this page to check out her podcast. NotQuiteNovelists is a show where Savannah and a guest draw random themes (detectives, aliens, fairies) and tones (western, carnival, rom-com) and come up with characters and stories with them. The process is almost always hilarious. and the results are really compelling! Check out her show!
